    WriteWise Exams

    Secure exams, in the browser

Import the paper, sit it in the browser, and keep conditions tight, including special assessment conditions, student by student.

Three ways to create the paper

Upload the exam you already have

PDF or Word. WriteWise reads the paper, sets up the questions, and pulls through images and audio so you are not rebuilding it by hand.

    Build it yourself

Write questions in the editor when you want a new paper. Attach stimuli, listening tracks, and the resources that session needs.

    Copy a previous exam

Duplicate last term's paper, adjust the schedule, and run another session. Co-owners can edit with you.

    In the paper

    01

Every exam format, in one window

Language exams, science papers, essays, and mixed papers all sit in the same browser window. Students stay in the exam. The tools the paper needs stay with it.

    • Images and listening audio from the paper, with play limits where you set them
    • Chinese and other language input using the device's own keyboard
    • Nothing extra to install for notation, readers, or media

    Strict mode

Explain how the writer creates tension.

    02

    Cheat prevention, in the browser

Choose the security the session needs, from a quieter standard mode to a strict lockdown. There is no plugin and nothing to install on student devices. Strict mode shuts down tab-switching, leaving the window, and pasting work in from outside.

    • Standard or strict, set for the session or for one student
    • Leaving fullscreen, switching tabs, clicking away, a MacBook half-swipe to the next desktop, or an AI window over the exam (Claude Quick Entry, or Gemini’s floating chat) locks writing until a teacher unlocks
    • Copy and paste only works inside the exam

    03

    Special assessment conditions, by student

SAC should not mean a different room or exam readers. WriteWise Exams SAC applies in seconds, only for the right students.

    • Extra writing time for a SAC session or an individual student
    • Exam reader (read-aloud) inside the secure window
    • Loosen security for a student who needs their own tools
    • Allow or block student AI feedback on formative sessions
    • Roster icons show who has SAC. Every change is written to the audit trail

    Live invigilation from the roster

See who has joined, who is writing, who is locked, and who has submitted. Unlock a student, add time, or leave an audit note without disturbing the rest of the room.

    • A short session code on the board. Students join after they sign in
    • Several invigilators can watch the same session
    • An audit trail of lockouts, unlocks, and time changes

    05

    AI auto-marking, calibrated to NCEA

After the session, turn on auto-marking and WriteWise marks scripts against the NCEA standard. It is the same marker used in Learn: years of NCEA experience in New Zealand classrooms, and round after round of calibration with New Zealand teachers on real student work. You still confirm the grade.

    • Suggested marks and comments on each script, ready for review
    • Works with a marking team: split papers, mark in parallel, then release
    • Grades stay hidden until you release them. Saving a mark does not publish it

    06

Marking that stays a department's job

Creators, co-owners, invigilators, and markers have different roles on purpose. Inline comments sit on the student's text. Formative sessions can send students thinking points back, without handing them a finished answer.

    • Delegate papers so marking is shared, not dumped on one person
    • Teacher annotations on the sentence, next to any AI reference marks
    • Optional student AI feedback after a practice session

Your reading of the ending is convincing, and the evidence is woven in rather than listed. To push this further, name which aspect of the standard that last paragraph is aiming at, and say how the language choice supports it.

    07

Release to students, without the paperwork

You decide when students see their results, and which marker comments go with them. The AI grader's comments stay hidden unless you release those too. If you want paper copies, print the whole class at any time.

    • Choose which marker comments students see
    • Optionally release the AI grader's comments
    • Print the whole class whenever you want

    Recovery

    Keep writing

Enter the recovery code your teacher gave you.

    08

If the Wi-Fi drops, the session does not

Students keep writing if the network fails. Teachers have a recovery code for the device. If a laptop dies, the student signs in on another machine and continues. Work syncs when the connection returns.

    • Offline recovery without losing what they have already typed
    • Rejoin with the same session code if they leave the page
    • Teachers can re-open an accidental submit

    Also in WriteWise Exams

    • School login and SSO, so students already know how to sign in
    • Joining instructions you can paste into Google Classroom or Teams
    • Multiple sessions of the same paper, each with its own session code
    • Copy an exam, including resources, for the next class
    • Teacher PD so staff are ready before the first exam session
    • Nothing to download onto Chromebooks, Windows, or Macs
